Prescription Benefits

What We Offer...

Participants whose former employer contributed to the Trust at the highest rate can take advantage of a discount prescription drug benefit, which carries a separate annual deductible of $635 that applies to prescription drugs only. This discount program is through Medco. The prescription drug benefit is available through both the indemnity program and the PPO option. There is NO FEE to participate and you are automatically enrolled when you retire (the $35 monthly premium for eligible spouses does apply).

  • Generic drugs are covered at 90 percent
  • "Plan-preferred" brand-name drugs are covered at 75 percent
  • "Non-plan-preferred" brand-name drugs are covered at 60 percent

"Plan-preferred" drugs are sometimes called "formulary" drugs. These drugs are reviewed by an independent group of practicing doctors and pharmacists for safety and effectiveness. A list of these drugs, is available at www.medcohealth.com, or through the Trust office at (239) 936-6242.

What You Need to Do...

To take advantage of the prescription drug discount, simply show your Trust I.D. card when you visit a participating pharmacy (to find a participating pharmacy near you, go to www.Medcohealth.com website and select "Pharmacy Locator" under the "Choose a Feature" drop-down box in the upper right-hand corner of the screen).

The pharmacy will apply your deductible and the appropriate coinsurance at the time of purchase. You will pay the pharmacy the amount owed and, if your former employer contributes to the Trust at the highest rate, you will not have to file a claim.

Participants whose former employer contributed to the Trust below the highest rate also receive a discount by showing their Trust I.D. card. These participants are responsible for submitting receipts to the Trust office for consideration. The amount of the discount will vary by drug.
