Our Mission
The G.M.P. – Employers Retiree Trust was created in collective bargaining negotiations to provide post-retirement health care coverage to eligible retirees and their spouses. It also provides $2,000 in life insurance coverage to eligible retirees.

What The Trust Does for You

Through G.M.P. – Employers Retiree Trust, eligible participants (retirees only – there is no coverage for spouses) are automatically enrolled for life insurance coverage that costs nothing. Your beneficiary will receive $2,000 if you are eligible and die from any cause while insured.

In addition, if you are an eligible Trust participant (retirees and spouses), you and your eligible spouse are automatically enrolled in the Trust’s indemnity program for medical coverage when you retire. If you are not yet eligible for Medicare, there’s another health care option that offers even greater flexibility and coverage — the Preferred Provider Organization (PPO).

The G.M.P. - Employers Retiree Trust History

The G.M.P. – Employers Retiree Trust began its operations in 1966. It was created to be of service to its contributing employers’ eligible hourly retirees and their spouses.

Participants in the Trust are eligible retirees who were members of what is now known as the GMP (Glass, Molders, Pottery, Plastics & Allied Workers International Union, AFL-CIO, CLC) and who worked for contributing employers. The Trust’s participants include eligible retirees and their eligible spouses. (A spouse is considered to be eligible if married to the retiree at the time of retirement.) Dependent children are not eligible to be covered by the Trust.

Since its inception, the Trust has paid out more than $495 million in medical and life insurance benefits to its participants. For calendar year 2005, about $45 million in medical benefits alone was paid to Trust participants. There are nearly 25,000 participants in the Trust’s Plan of Benefits. The Plan of Benefits is administered by the Trust office in Fort Myers, Florida.
